Felice Tosalli. Animals from another dream

exhibition

From an idea by Vittorio Sgarbi. Curated by Alfonso Panzetta with Beatrice Avanzi

Felice Tosalli (1883-1958) was the most important exponent of animal sculpture in Italy, interpreted according to a refined, fairytale-like taste that was often full of tenderness.

The exhibition retraces in their entirety Tosalli's various fields of activity, from sculpture to advertising and ceramic production, through about seventy works from prestigious public and private collections.

In his animal production, the artist proves to be original and unique, unparalleled in Europe, to the point that today critics consider him to be the most singular of Italian animal painters due to his use of delicately watercoloured wood, his knowledge of comparative anatomy and his empathy. In figure sculptures, on the other hand, Tosalli displays a profound international, particularly Central European, culture.
