Giovanni Skulina. Fragments of Instants

exhibition , Photographic exhibition

Once again, the Garda area and photography dialogue in a project organized by the Alto Garda Museum. At the center of the Museum's cultural programming are initiatives to study and disseminate the numerous photographic collections concerning the Garda landscape, also in relation to the anthropization of the territory and changes in society.

In this direction moves the project to valorize the archive of Giovanni Skulina (1912-1979), whose photographs represent precious testimonies of the Garda landscape, of which the Alto Garda Museum preserves important nuclei, such as those of Carlo Armani, Augusto Baroni, Alois Beer and Silvio Pozzini.

The presentation to the public of about two hundred photographs taken by Skulina between the 1940s and 1950s, in fact, makes it possible to unveil a historical period that is still little studied, immortalizing a context in which the last moments of a still rural world coexisted with the nascent activities related to mass tourism that would soon take over.

Luxury hotels, stalls with typical products and vacationers disembarking in amazement from tour buses contrast with glimpses of villages not yet altered by urbanization, religious ceremonies parading along dirt roads and traditional peasant crafts linked to the eternal passing of the seasons.
