It’s an opportunity to have fun, learn and try one’s hand at old techniques and knowledge, surrounded by history and nature.

S.A.S.S. Spazio Archeologico Sotterraneo del Sas - Tridentum (Tridentum S.A.S.S. - Underground Archaeological Site SASS)

The Sass Underground Archaeological Space, in Piazza Cesare Battisti, in the heart of Trento and symbolic location of Tridentum, offers visitors over 1,700 m² of Roman ruins. In addition to the remains of the Roman Tridentum, visitors have also the opportunity to watch the multimedia video “Dentro Trento” (“Inside Trento”), a three-dimensional journey going backwards in time with virtual reality reconstructions of the archaeological area.

Museo Retico
Centro per l’archeologia e la storia antica della Val di Non (Rhaetian Museum – Centre for the archaeology and ancient history of Val di Non)

An original and compelling exhibition itinerary brings visitors back into the past, from the Paleolithic hunter-gatherers to the first Neolithic farmers, the Copper age blacksmiths and the worship sites of the Bronze age.

Technological and multimedia aids enhance the collection of precious archaeological finds, among which evidence of the “mysterious” Rhaetian people stands out, who lived in Trentino and Tyrol before the Romans.

Museo delle Palafitte di Fiavé (Fiavè Pile-Dwelling Museum)

This museum provides an extraordinary window on the daily life of the inhabitants of prehistoric Trentino. The museum hosts a selection of extraordinary objects found by archaeologists, especially pottery, but also jewels made of bronze and Baltic amber and gold.

A prehistoric village in one of the largest models ever realised, with over 70 characters, and about 300 items, tableware, wooden kitchen and working tools astonish visitors for their modernity and are evidence of noteworthy building techniques.

Last but not least, some not-to-be-missed videos and installations take visitors back to about 3,500 years ago!

Area archeologica Acqua Fredda ("Acqua fredda" archaeological site)

The "Acqua fredda" archaeological site at the Redebus Pass (1440 m.a.s.l.), situated between the Altopiano di Pinè and the Valle dei Mocheni, is one of the most important prehistoric metalworking sites in the Alps, and one of the highest archaeological areas to be turned into a museum in Europe. Here, a group of 9 smelting furnaces has been discovered which date back to the Late Bronze Age (8-9th century BC). The site bears testimony to the important activity of copper ore processing.
