Christmas markets in Trentino

The colourful offer of the Christmas markets creates an atmosphere of lights and sounds, scents and colours. A tradition that relives every year in Trentino

The atmosphere of Christmas in Trentino is one with that of the markets which, according to tradition, precede and accompany the festivities. The lights that are switched on early in the afternoon increase the charm of these places, suspended in time, where the scent of candles and cinnamon cakes combine with Christmas music, while an incessant flow of people fills the streets and squares.

Some markets are already open, yet celebrations are really getting going, starting from 23 November until 6 January. This dates are valid for Trento’s Christmas Markets , with its 90 wooden huts in two historic squares: Piazza Fiera and Piazza Cesare Battisti (opening times: Sun – Thur: 10.00 – 19.30; Fri and Sat: 10.00 – 20.30; Sat 14 December 2019 and Sat 4 January 2020 open from 10.00 to 23.00. On 26 December 2019, on 1 and 6 January 2020 open from 10.00 to 19.30. On Christmas Day the market is closed). Various events are also scheduled in different venues.

Same dates for the Christmas Market of Levico Terme  , which has the taste of an ancient fairy tale that comes to life in the centuries-old Habsburg Park, a place where you can breathe the charm of Christmas.

Also the Christmas market of Arco   comes from the Habsburg tradition, and it will open on 1 December (until 30/12). The Christmas atmosphere is renewed in the palazzos of Ala, Velvet Town   (23/11/2019 - 22/12/2019): in the weekends before Christmas, there’s an exclusive market selling fabrics, hand-painted silks and original Christmas decorations. In the palazzos you’ll enjoy music and local food, and a lot of creative workshops for children.

Concerts and various events will fill the squares in Rovereto, City of Peace (22/11/2019 - 06/01/2020), where the common thread of exhibitions, cribs and magic atmosphere is the Light, symbol of brotherhood, solidarity and humanity, and bearer of a message of Peace. Lights will illuminate the facades of the buildings, add colour to streets and squares and create evocative scenarios for Nativity scenes.

Don’t miss the charm of the Christmas markets of Rango and Canale di Tenno    (from 17 November to 29 December). These are in fact two of the most beautiful Medieval hamlets of Italy in Trentino, and they offer a rich programme of events and flavours in the streets, cottages and old small squares! No wooden huts, but a journey through the most hidden and characteristic corners in the village. 

Tesero and its cribs   (07/12/2019 - 05/01/2020) present about a hundred traditional handmade cribs, which will be enlightened until 23.00. From the large nativity scene in the main square to those in the side streets, the historical town centre is transformed into a route for visitors to rediscover fascinating places and architectural suggestions, unique for their peculiarity and preservation.

In Cavalese, in Val di Fiemme, the Christmas Holidays are warmed up by an evocative candle-lit Magnificent Christmas Market  (01/12/2019 - 06/01/2020), rich in typical and handmade products, enlivened by folk shows, exhibitions, art labs and thematic weekends to rediscover ancient traditions such as processing of wool, wood, herbs and honey, but also folk dances, “krampus”  and period costumes.

In Riva del Garda, Father Christmas and Mrs.Claus (30/11/2019 - 31/12/2019) will open their house to young and old alike to live a dream in a place full of surprise, while in Pergine Valsugana the  “Mercatino di Natale dei Canopi   ” (9/11/2019 - 06/01/2020) celebrates the legend of miners, gnomes and ladies, who came down to the valley during Advent to offer unique and extraordinary events.

About 1000 cribs in Ossana   (29/11/2019 - 06/01/2020) are to be enjoyed, and don’t miss visiting the Castle of San Michele, which was reopened to the public in 2014.

Christmas at the Avio Castle  (30/11/2019 - 15/12/2019): three weekends in a really magic place, illuminated by fire, heated by food and wine, accompanied by the rhythm of words and music. “Castellum Ava” has hidden paths, puzzles to be solved, histories and legends to tell, a unique atmosphere to be discovered.
