Water, precious resource for Trentino

World Water Day

World Water Day, 22 March 2021, is about what water means to people, its true value and how we can better protect this vital resource.

The 2020 Report on the state of the environment in the Province of Trento shows an overall positive situation of our waters. Just to give a couple of figures: 85% of the 412 monitored rivers reach 'good' ecological status, and the same applies to almost all groundwater bodies.

As far as the main lakes are concerned, the situation is good to sufficient, so we have room for improvement and we rely on solid and healthy foundations.

Water in Trentino is precious also from an economic point of view, considering its use in agriculture and especially for energy production: hydroelectric use moves the largest volumes of water, 91% of the total, but returns it entirely after use, without any dissipation.

It is therefore clear that we must continue to manage this extraordinary resource with extreme care, also in view of the effects that climate change may have on it in the future.
