Daniele Tamagni. Style Is Life

Curated by Chiara Bardelli Nonino, Gabriele Lorenzoni, Aïda Muluneh.
In collaboration with Daniele Tamagni Foundation.
The Mart is dedicating an exhibition-tribute to Daniele Tamagni. The exhibition, held in the Galleria Civica spaces, is curated by Chiara Bardelli Nonino, Gabriele Lorenzoni, and Aïda Muluneh, in collaboration with the Fondazione Daniele Tamagni, and traces the artist's brief career.
Daniele Tamagni (Milan, Italy, 1975 - 2017) began taking photographs as an adult, and right from the outset, achieved excellent responses and recognition, such as the Canon Young Photographer Award, the ICP Infinity and the World Press Photo Awards.
He was well known in fashion photography circles and had strong ties to Trentino, where he spent part of his childhood and adolescence.
Tamagni used photography as a tool for social investigation. His shots in the African megalopolises or from South America show the joie de vivre, adaptability, pride and joy of the urban communities for whom fashion is a tool for positioning themselves in a reinvented society.
The images of the Congolese sapeurs, the Botswanan afrometals, the Bolivian female wrestlers, and the young dance groups in Johannesburg remind us of the subversive and political value of fashion.
