Food Sound
The hidden sound of food

Isn’t it amazing that we can taste food with all our senses? We can taste it, smell it, see it, touch it and even hear it!
Wait – hear it? Oh yes! It’s amazing how sounds can influence our food and consumption choices, even when we’re not aware of it.
Put on the headphones and get ready for an interactive and engaging tour.
Dive into an amazing journey where you’ll explore the fascinating link between sound, food choices and neuroscience, and find out how scientists proved that ‘we eat with our ears too’.
Exhibition itinerary
An immersive, integrated, three-dimensional exhibition of colours, shapes, light and shadow, iconic items, reconstructed environments and, of course, sounds: sounds that are physical and real, but also whispered, imagined, perceived.
An exhibition that presents a participatory, collective and communal dimension, built around shared experiences of food, but also an individual, intimate fruition that invites you to reflect on your personal relationship with food.
A narrative that comes to life through five sections:
-
-
Prologue
Discover what sound is, how we perceive it and how our brain processes it. -
The kitchen
Immerse yourself in a kitchen and listen: what memories do these sounds evoke? -
The restaurant street
From the trattoria with the classic checkered tablecloth to the starred restaurant, from fast food to street food, from dark dining to the restaurant of the future: how do sounds affect our dining experience? -
The market of illusions
How much do sounds influence our shopping and consumption habits? How do they contribute to our perception of food? Put yourself to the test and try to choose what to eat based on sound alone. -
Scientific whispers
Sit back and enjoy ASMR tracks and 3D sounds.
