The mysteries of throat singing

Music

HUUN-HUUR-TU

Mysterious, magical - these are the first adjectives that come to mind on hearing the music of the Huun-Huur Tu quartet, custodians of the folk traditions of Tuva, a small republic of the Russian Federation on the border with Mongolia. One of the characteristic features of those traditions is throat singing, but there are also traditional string and percussion instruments such as the igil, the khomus and the dünggür drum. Fascinating, timeless music.
