Luciano Baldessari. The Golden Theatre

On the occasion of the exhibition I disegni di Luciano Baldessari per il Giuliano di Riccardo Zandonai (Teatro Zandonai, 18 December 2024-6 January 2025, promoted by the Municipality of Rovereto, curated by Fondazione C.A.S.V.A.), the Mart features a collection of works and documents that underline the pivotal role of theatre culture in the artist's training and body of work.

This is illustrated by the opera librettos and stagecraft manuals in his book collection, revealing the expressionist and avant-garde influences he absorbed during his time in Vienna and Berlin.

These instances inspired Baldessari's set designs and his work for Giuliano, an opera composed by Riccardo Zandonai in 1927.

Some facets of its drafting and execution are recorded through papers, photographs, and printed materials.

The documents come from the Mart (Collections and Archivio del ’900, Luciano Baldessari archive) and the Zandonai archive of the Biblioteca Civica G. Tartarotti in Rovereto.
