Mein Kampf

Drama

100 years after Mein Kampf, Massini, the only Italian playwright to have won a Tony Award, brings to the stage a highly lucid and ruthless investigation into the power of words and their consequences.

The great Florentine playwright will be in Trento from 6 to 10 November with Mein Kampf from Adolf Hitler, a show produced by Teatro Stabile di Bolzano, Piccolo Teatro of Milan - Teatro d'Europa, in collaboration with Fondazione Teatro della Toscana.

One hundred years separate us from 1924, the year when “Mein Kampf” was born. And eight years, on the other hand, have passed since 2016, when Germany decided to allow it to be published again in bookstores, believing that only knowledge could prevent a repetition of such a catastrophe.

Stefano Massini, after years of work cross-referencing the texts of all the Führer's speeches with the first draft of the book-manifesto dictated by the young Hitler in the Landsberg cell, puts on stage this performance in which “Mein Kampf” emerges in all its disconcerting magnitude:

what takes stage form here is the paranoid autobiography of an invaded visionary, increasingly convinced that he could sublimate his personal frustrations into a political project, so revolutionary and so delusional.

From the primacy of the race to the apotheosis of the leader, from the uncontrolled love for the masses to a fever for propaganda, in this torrential river of words, thick with invective and repetition, the entire scaffolding of national-socialism gradually takes shape.

Massini offers all this without filters, not only in the obsessive, baroque and emphatic style of the original text, but above all in a millimetric theatrical study of the rhythms, tones, and words of the German dictator.

The awareness of this mechanism is the only antidote to its nefarious replication.
