Nude studies
Giulia Thun at the British Academy of Arts in Rome

Rome in the ’20s: a cultural landscape undergoing rapid change, in which crucial historic events take
place. It is in this epoch that Giulia Violante Thun (Castelfondo, 1895 - Trento, 1970) studied for long
periods at the British Academy of Arts in the capital.
This is seen in an ample group of recently discovered drawings. Conserved in the Provincial Archives of
Trento, they will be exhibited for the first time at Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento.
Female and male nude studies, created in the studios of the long-established British institute, alongside
artists from all over Europe, shed light on an extraordinary moment in the life and training of the Trentino
noblewoman. They also reveal partly forgotten aspects of Italian and international culture of the period.
