Proserpina #A_S4 , at Arte Sella, a new installation
by artist Quayola

Since 6 October Arte Sella has been hosting Proserpina #A_S4 at the Malga Costa exhibition area, a series of four large Carrara marble sculptures conceived site-specifically by artist Quayola.
The same artist presented here the video installation "Jardins d'Été" in 2020, a visual homage to the brushstrokes of Claude Monet.
The four Proserpina #A_S4 sculptures, created for Arte Sella, consist of algorithmic variations on Gian Lorenzo Bernini's (1621-1622) celebrated Baroque masterpiece The Rape of Proserpina; placed near the park's theater, the sculptures remain unfinished, with the intention of documenting the logic and aesthetics of the process of creation, the true subject of the work.
As the artist states:
I try to investigate the paradigms of the old and the new, the real and the artificial. My work often analyzes how we look at art masterpieces, and explores the tension between direct experience and the viewpoint mediated by technology.
