The cigar seller

Theatrical performance by Amos Kamil

Drama

Berlin 1947, 6.30 a.m. In Germany, just out of the war, every morning at the same time, two men meet: a Jewish professor who wants to leave to found the State of Israel, and the owner of a tobacconist's shop, with a typical German appearance.

They have survived the tragedy that has just upset and almost annihilated an entire population. Being born German in 1920 meant being condemned to become an executioner. Being born a Jew in the same year was the condemnation to be a victim.

In both cases, rebellion against this fate could cost dearly. What compromises is a human being, alone, willing to make when he is on the brink of the abyss?

The show, starting from the Jewish question at a crucial moment in its evolution, speaks to everyone, because sooner or later we are all called to come to terms with our identity and to choose the times and ways of our social participation.
