A dog's life

Drama

by Giulio Federico Janni

with Silvia Marchetti, Giulio Federico Janni, Christian Renzicchi, Davide Pedrini, Niccolò Curradi

Direction Maura Pettorruso

A company of actors is on tour in a small village in southern Italy. A seaside village in November.

The hotel on the beach where they are staying is deserted.

Even the lobby bar is deserted. The waiters are on holiday. Yet the actors can help themselves, on their own.

All of a sudden, the arrival of a young, disruptive girl interrupts the monotony of the hours.

She is a last-minute tourist, a lover of the winter sea, an unusual bather looking for an open bar in that boundless wasteland.

Like a Deus ex machina, she opens up the secret rooms of the incredulous actors, unearthing their secrets, fears and obsessions; she lays bare their half-failures, their "half-dog lives".

A bitter comedy, where you laugh in order not to cry, where you cry in order not to laugh. Because that's how (their) life is: too fleeting to take seriously.
