Bio-Talk

Could science redefine mankind through DNA manipulation?

Meetings and conferences , Conference

Could DNA manipulation be a solution to solve the crucial problems of humanity - including eradicating incurable diseases - if we employed more and more versatile and effective techniques?
Could it satisfy the growing global demand for food? Will research and industry, in their practices, be able to take care of people's needs, while respecting their values and concerns?

On the occasion of the European Biotech Week - a week of events dedicated to the biotechnology sector, which takes place every year across Europe - on 29 September the MUSE Science Museum proposes "Bio-Talk", a panel discussion to give a voice to young researchers, experts of bio-law and science communication, to meditate together on the new results of genetic manipulation.

In the lobby of the Muse, at 21.00, the theatrical show “Vite sintetiche” ("Synthetic lives") by Compagnia Teatrincorso - Spazio 14 (with the MUSE's scientific advice) will deal with the above mentioned issues in an ironic and entertaining way, so as to stimulate questions about the value of scientific innovations.

Theatre director: Elena R. Marino; text by Elena R. Marino, concept and scientific texts by Patrizia Famà and Lucia Martinelli (MUSE). Guest star: a mysterious dinosaur!
