City Nature Challenge

New edition of the City Nature Challenge, a friendly competition on monitoring urban biodiversity worldwide

Cultural exhibitions and events

In the City Nature Challenge (CNC), citizens are involved by researchers in biodiversity monitoring activities (Bioblitz) with the aim of recording as many naturalistic observations of flora and fauna as possible in their city, by using the iNaturalist app.

More than 450 cities are taking part in the global event this year.

In Trento, the 2022 CNC edition will start at the park of Villa Sant'Ignazio on 29 April, from 17.00 to 22.00:

the MUSE - Science museum and the Samuele Social Cooperative will propose a series of activities dedicated to Citizen Science, including a bioblitz, a visit to the vegetable gardens of the social agriculture laboratory, and a focus on the world of bats. Deadline: 2 May to register your naturalistic observations on the iNaturalist platform: last year, more than 700 observations were made in the Trento alone, for a total of 235 species monitored.

A public park, a garden, a lawn, a vegetable garden, a terrace and a smartphone, together with a strong desire to get involved: these are the elements that will transform Trento's citizens into real citizen-scientists - from 29 April to 2 May 2022, thanks to the "City Nature Challenge" -

The international event - relaunched at local level by the MUSE Science museum, the Municipality of Trento, the Natural Science Society of Trentino, Trentino WWF Association and the Biodistrict of Trento with the companies Maso Martis, Villa Margon-Ferrari, Samuele Social Cooperative, Maso Franch and Azienda agricola Foradori - will lead schools, citizens and all those "curious about nature" to observe carefully the environment that surrounds us, take photographs of plants and animals and record the sounds of nature. The data collected can be uploaded to iNaturalist (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2022-trento-cluster-biodiversita), a free app open to everyone and used all over the world, and thus contribute to research into local and national biodiversity.

Free admission to the event; limited number of participants (50), booking required on Ticketlandia.
