Wax sculptures and drawings by David Aaron Angeli
In the context of the collaboration started in 2013 with the Mart (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Trento and Rovereto), the project on contemporary art “Der Blitz. Research, action and contemporary culture” in the high Lake Garda region is currently in progress. Organised by Denis Isaia and Federico Mazzonelli, it is hosted in the MAG Mag Alto Garda museum and focuses on contemporary art researches, relating them to the territory.
The first event of Der Blitz 2016 will be revealed on Saturday 12th March at 18.00 in the Museum of Riva del Garda, during the opening of new exhibitions. It's Fluids, a project by the young Trentino artist David Aaron Angeli (1982), who alternates between wax sculptures and charcoal drawings on paper.
The artistic research of David Aaron Angeli takes the form of a sort of visual narration with iconographic elements related to the topics of sacredness, of the ancestral world and of the relationship between human and natural space.
Through drawings, sculptures and environmental installations, the artist draws on patterns and iconographies inspired by texts, antique prints, works from the past, history, geographical or zoological books, giving them other forms and meanings.
The beeswax, the material used to create the sculptures, becomes also a central element of the works. The wax , being a natural, raw material, emphasises the common thread of his research, that is the suggestion of a non-objective dimension and the recreation of a mental space instead of the plain depiction of images.
