As of this year, the Italian War History Museum has joined the Giornata Internazionale dei Musei (International Museum Day – IMD) promoted by ICOM – International Council of Museums

After recently joining the association that brings together museum institutions from all over the world, the Museum has chosen to establish a day of free admission to its collections on Thursday 18 May.

Each year, this day is dedicated to a different theme that highlights the importance of the role of museums in the service of society and its development. For 2023, the theme of the International Museum Day is Museums, Sustainability and Well-being.

Museums make an important contribution to the well-being and sustainable development of our communities, fostering positive change. They can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030 in different ways: from tackling climate change, to promoting inclusiveness, from fighting social isolation, to improving mental health.

Offering free admission to the museum is a small act that underlines how cultural venues can be spaces of growth and development for everyone and contribute to forming active and aware citizens.

On Thursday 18 May, therefore, the doors of the Museum will be open from 10.00 to 18.00 (last admission at 17.00)

In addition to the recently expanded permanent museum tour, it will also be possible to visit the temporary exhibition Sarajevo 1992-1996. L’assedio più lungo | Sarajevo 1992-1996. The longest siege. Photographs by Mario Boccia and the Artillery Section 1914-1918 in piazza Podestà.
