Segantini and the Divisionist Landscape: Nature, Memory and Symbol

exhibition , Painting exhibition

Orizzonti di luce. Segantini e il paesaggio divisionista: natura, memoria e simbolo | Segantini and the Divisionist Landscape: Nature, Memory and Symbol, the exhibition at the "Giovanni Segantini" Civic gallery, dedicated to one of the themes par excellence of painting, the landscape, can be visited until 22 October.

This exhibition project, curated by Alessandro Botta and Niccolò D'Agati, investigates Giovanni Segantini's particular predilection for nature and landscape, presenting his works spanning a broad chronology that begins with the trials conducted in Brianza and ends with Symbolist research.

Alongside the figure of Segantini, the exhibition presents key works by other protagonists of the Divisionist season.

Three thematic sections - 'Nature', 'Memory' and 'Symbol' - offer a comprehensive look at the possible declinations of the landscape genre in those intense decades of pictorial elaboration, offering the audience the opportunity to approach well-known and lesser-known works that are difficult to see and to compare directly as a whole.

Alongside the figure of Segantini there are the painters and works of Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Angelo Morbelli, Emilio Longoni, Vittore Grubicy De Dragon, Luigi Conconi, Giovanni Sottocornola, Cesare Maggi, Carlo Fornara, Benvenuto Benvenuti, Guido Cinotti, Baldassarre Longoni, Carlo Cressini, Alberto Bonomi and Matteo Olivero.

The works on display come from the Segantini Museum in St. Moritz (including the famous 'Il ritorno dal bosco' - 'Return from the Woods'), from the Modern Art Gallery in Milan, the Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin, the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation of Alessandria Collection and the Matteo Olivero Art Gallery in Saluzzo ( Cuneo), as well as from numerous private collections.
