By means of the Province’s Council Decision no. 11 of September 2017, the Autonomous Province of Trento established Trentino’s Great War casualties Day on 14 October.

For this occasion, in collaboration with the Italian War History Museum of Rovereto and the Trentino History Museum Foundation, the Autonomous Province of Trento has presented a schedule starting on

Free guided visit to the Memoriale dei caduti trentini della Grande Guerra (Memorial dedicated to Trentino’s Great War casualties)
Path dedicated to the theme of the commemoration of the fallen between the 19th century and the early postwar period, the forms of remembrance and the creation of cemeteries, monuments and shrines. Trento during the Great War - city tour
A tour with stages through the city of Trento to discover what the war meant for the city and its population. From the departure of soldiers and refugees, to the living conditions of those left behind in a militarized city, from visiting - inside the Buonconsiglio Castle - the places linked to Cesare Battisti, to reflecting on the contested memory in a border territory like Trentino.

Guided visit to Fort Cadine
The fort, built between 1860 and 1861, belongs to the first group of permanent Austrian fortifications with the task of blocking access to Trento and the Adige valley. The visit retraces the Great War through the history of the Trentino fortified system, at a site that is no longer a border site but a European meeting space. Indeed, in 2018 the fort received the European Heritage Label awarded to sites that symbolize and celebrate European ideals, values, history and integration.

“Paesaggi Forti” exhibition
What does the Trentino fortified landscape really tell us? Graphics, photographs, and models investigate the relationship between Trentino forts and the landscapes in which they are situated, revealing unprecedented ecological reading possibilities. An artistic and cultural experience that interweaves artworks created ad hoc by Alchemica APS artists and the results of a research project.
