La Missa Papae Marcelli di Palestrina ( Pope Marcellus Mass)

Beauty Farm Vocal Septet from Vienna

Music

The famous Beauty Farm Vocal Septet from Vienna proposes the well-known Missa Papae Marcelli by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, which takes us back in time to the Council of Trento (1545-1563), when there was a heated discussion about liturgical music and its function.

The Mass of Palestrina was mentioned from the beginning by musicographers and musicians as the event that, for its purity, devotion and expressive beauty, saved sacred polyphony from being banned from churches.

Even if that interpretation is not consistent with fact, since the latter is more complex, Palestrina certainly remained

until the nineteenth century as an undisputed model of the sacred composition in style.
