Ladin Carnival of Campitello
One of the most exciting festivals in the valley takes place in the square of Campitello, with many masks wearing 'faceres' and performing witty skits and jokes on the spectators

There are several events organised for Carnival on the different squares of the towns of the valley, but the most eagerly awaited party is undoubtedly that of Campitello.
As every year, on the Sunday preceding Shrove Tuesday, in the square "Piaz de Ciampedel" (main square), many masks parade, wearing the typical "facères da bel e da burt" (masks, "beautiful" or "ugly", finely carved in wood by local artists) and performing witty skits and jokes, involving the spectators.
As per tradition, the parade is opened by the "Grop de la Mescrès de Canazei e Gries" (Canazei and Gries group of masks) who will perform with "Lachè", "Bufon" and "Marascons", the unique "guide" masks in the entire Alpine arc, in their richly decorated costumes.
To liven up the festival, a folk music band will perform, making people want to dance until late afternoon. Food stalls open from 1.30 p.m. with hot sandwiches, typical sweets and drinks.
