Open Palazzos 2022 - Church of Madonnina di Loreto

Cultural exhibitions and events , Guided tour

Built around the year 1700 on the personal initiative of local innkeeper Giovanni Battista Svaldi, the Church of Madonnina di Loreto stands east of the village of Lavis, near the bridge over the Avisio River.

The townspeople immediately showed a strong attachment to this temple, and as early as 1710 they perpetuated the custom of presenting stillborn children to the Virgin Mary to obtain a sign of vitality that would allow them to be baptised. Moreover, throughout the 18th century the temple was a point of reference for the Alemannic community of Lavis, who were instructed in Christian doctrine here.
