Qwanqwa@Itinerarifolk

Music

Founded in 2012 by the American violinist Kaethe Hostetter - who after her move to Addis Ababa had immersed herself in the depths of Ethiopian music - Qwanqwa, an Amharic term meaning "language", is a project that finds its inspiration in the dialogue between different cultures, sounds and repertoires.

Exploring the rhythms and atmospheres of East Africa, the range of action of this project ranges from the trance songs of Eritrean tribes to pieces of Somali rock and songs by Mahmoud Ahmed with experimental arrangements and psychedelic sounds produced by traditional instruments.
