Riccardo Schweizer. Storm on the Lake

La tempesta sul lago (The storm on the lake) is a work of great significance because of the Garda context. It was painted in 1962 by Riccardo Schweizer (Mezzano di Primiero 1925 - Casez 2004) as a fresco decoration for the lobby of the Hotel Ideal in Limone sul Garda.
A few years ago the hotel was demolished and the work saved, thanks to the intervention of the Comitato Riccardo Schweizer.
Here, Lake Garda is not seen by the artist through the stereotypical eyes of mass tourism, but from the point of view of those who live and fully understand the delicate ecosystem of the lake: Schweizer has not indulged us with a fairytale landscape vision, but stressed the dramatic theme of the storm, able to make human certainties waver, and which have to surrender before the sheer force of nature.
