S.L.O.I. MACHINE tells us, through the memoirs of Grandpa Olmo, the true story of the S.L.O.I. factory that produced tetraethyl lead (in Trento, between 1938 al 1978).

After an initial period of euphoria and praised virtues, this chemical compound turns out to be harmful causing the death of many of its workers and undermining the health of all others leading them to impotence, abulia, and anorexia.

The pollution of the air and groundwater, probably irreversible, transforms a dream rural area into a black nightmare of unhealthy sludge and swamps, poisonous fumes entering the food chain through milk and meat produced nearby.

A catastrophe, announced many times, that could have caused the actual destruction of the entire province of Trento and surrounding areas, foiled in a fortuitous and adventurous way at the last minute.
