TÀ GYNAIKEIA. COSE DI DONNE

Lorenzo Daniele

Italy / 2015 / 52'

A 80-year-old photographer, a charismatic enologist, an old educator, a popular writer, a young archaeologist, a famous actress. What connects these things? The fact of being women. And Sicilian. All of these are fragments of one story, the one of Sicily, “female” land for excellence. It shows the huge variety of myths, legends and cults linked to women, who help in fact cohesion among all the populations that have occupied (and keep on occupying) this island.

AVE MARIA

Basil Khalil

France, Germany, Palestine / 2015 / 14'

The silent everyday life of nuns of the convent “Sorelle della Misericordia” in the West Bank desert is interrupted when a family of Israeli settlers knocks on their door asking for help after they crashed the car against the wall of the convent. The Jews can't make phonecalls due to the Shabbat, and the nuns have made the vow of silence. Thus they have to collaborate in order that the family can go back home.

WOMEN IN SINK

Iris Zaki

United Kingdom, Israel / 2015 / 36'

At a small hair salon in Haifa, owned by an Arab Christian, the director installed a small camera over the sink. While she washed the customers’ hair, she discussed various subjects with them, such as politics and love. These discussions ultimately created a sincere and accurate image of contemporary Israel.
