Giorno della Memoria 2015

The Shoah. Seventy years after the opening of the gates of Auschwitz.
In times of uncertainty and disorientation we must think about and make people think about the abyss in which humanity has slided into in the recent past.
We must keep this past alive in our memory and in our life for our personal and collective responsibility.
The programme below is in fact meant to raise a collective awareness of historical memory; events have been organized by libraries, institutions and associations around Trentino. Just to name a few, the theatrical story by Renzo Fracalossi and Federico Scarfì reminds us that the Holocaust was a tragedy not only in Germany; Moni Ovadia takes us on voyage into the culture of Ebraism in central Europe; last but not least, the novel “The book thief” by Markus Zusak was adapted into a stage play and into a film.

One act play by Renzo Fracalossi and Federico Scarfì, with Club Harmonia

For too long a time antisemitism in Italy was thought to be only Mussolini’s concern and of the high hierarchies of fascism. Yet, reality is different: from 1938 to 1945 millions of Italians proudly considered themselves “Aryans”, but at the same time they were ready to change their mind as the wind of history changed. Hence the fallacy of the “Italians as good people”; this myth must be reinterpreted in the light of events large and small of our past and present history.

Club Harmonia’s recital tries to remind us that the Holocaust was a tragedy not only in Germany: it involved the whole of Europe, and the remembrance of it is necessary in order to prevent such dramas from taking place again.
