Religion Today Filmfestival

Cinema

About a year ago, a young Swedish girl became famous for her school strike. She skipped classes to protest against her government in favor of a greener policy. In a year this young woman has inspired millions of teenagers to take to the streets and scream environmental slogans.

The environment and climate change suddenly became the topic of the day, they are discussed in the statements of half the world’s governments, they have filled newspapers and social media. The youngsters have woken up and want their parents and politicians to guarantee them a future, they can’t inherit a collapsing planet and they talk more and more of emergency.

In a context where the environment is the current agenda for millions of citizens and shortly after the nomination of Trento as the greenest Italian city, Religion Today Film Festival in its 23rd edition wants to meditate too on this subject naming the event “Earth I care - custodi della Terra”. The kermesse wants to investigate the relationship that religions establish with the surrounding environment and with the fragile beauty of nature. The starting point will be the concept of Integral Ecology, so dear to Pope Francis, which considers the earth as the common home of the community.

Exploring the differences

Since 1997 Religion Today has been the foremost international and itinerant film festival dedicated to Cinema and Religions for a culture of peace and dialogue between faiths, cultures, peoples and individuals.

It promotes a journey “exploring the differences”, both in religious practices and beliefs and in cinematic styles and languages, towards a mutual enrichment through reciprocal knowledge and comparison.

Together with the world cinema competition, open to any film with a religious connection, it offers a platform for exchanging ideas and viewpoints, including a “living workshop” involving filmmakers of different faiths and nationalities.

Every edition presents an “annual theme” and includes special events, academic panels and activities for schools and colleges.

Religion Today Film Festival is realized by Associazione BiancoNero, situated in Trento - Italy.
