Empty human shells

Tragic song about the deportation of mental patients from the psychiatric hospital of Pergine in May 1940

Drama

Theatrical performance of one of the most dramatic and cruel (and also forgotten) episodes in the history of the twentieth century in Trentino.

299 German-speaking men and women, who were mentally ill or disabled, were deported from the psychiatric hospital of Pergine Valsugana to Germany. They were in fact considered "empty human shells", worthless lives.

That was an operation agreed between the German and Italian authorities which provided for the elimination by euthanasia of the mentally ill and the disabled considered "worthless lives", "empty human shells". This episode is reconstructed on the basis of a script prepared by the Rovereto History Laboratory and through the scenic action of a company of normo-actors and "un"-actors with the background of an iconographic and sound apparatus of great impact.
