Alpinist Quintino Sella and the Cervino battle
Exhibition curated by Pietro Crivellaro e Lodovico Sella in collaboration with Fondazione Sella
The statesman from Biella, who was an engineer, geologist and scientist of European stature, also dedicated his time to climbing in the mountains throughout his life. On the 150th anniversary of the climbing of the Cervino, with the use of never previously seen photographs and documents, the exhibition reveals the background linking the Italian conquest of the Monviso, the founding of CAI and Carrel’s first ascent of the Gran Becca, all under the direction of Quintino sella. A surprising chapter in the history of Italy.
