Barmasse’s story can be set in the context of the long and glorious tradition of guides on the Cervino, beginning in

1865, when Jean-Antoine Carrel climbed the leone crest from Breuil and opened the way to a profession that has continued for a hundred and fifty years. With his solo ascents of the Cervino and the granite cliffs of the Karakorum and Patagonia, Hervé is today one of the leading climbers at European level, the fourth generation of mountaineers in the Barmasse family.
