The museum, which opened in 2003, contains material mostly from the mountains surrounding the village. The collection gives visitors an idea of the soldiers’ daily life in the mountains on the Trentino front. In addition to the uniforms and personal items on display, there is a field kitchen, the container of a cable conveyor from Punta Linke, a first aid hut, a tabernacle used in the trenches and a portable altar which highlights the spiritual life of the soldiers.
For several years the museum has organised preservation work in the mountains to protect the historical sites now emerging from the melting glaciers, in collaboration with the Department for Libraries and Archaeological Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento. From summer 2014 the high altitude site of Punta Linke (3.632 m) can also be visited.
ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
At the museum there is a wide range of books recounting the history of the area; a series of diaries and memoirs of soldiers and civilians; descriptions of the artefacts and a video library dedicated to the First World War. Books produced by the museum itself are also on sale.
In collaboration with the Stelvio National Park, the museum organises information evenings and excursions to First World War locations. Every year, in early September, there is a commemoration for the fallen in the former cemetery of San Rocco, in which there are the remains of the three soldiers discovered in 2004 on Giumela.

The museum is part of Rete Trentino Grande Guerra  , which promotes the collaboration between those who cultivate the passion for the history and recollection of those happenings.
