A journey through the history of Italian aeronautics

Stories of planes and pilots

exhibition

"A journey through the history of Italian aeronautics: stories of planes and pilots" is the new exhibition that, from Tuesday 4 May 2021, will welcome visitors to the Gianni Caproni Aeronautical Museum.

An itinerary that focuses on the aeronautical theme from three points of view: sporting, military and technological.

The protagonists of the conquest of the skies are the aircraft and aviators who made the history of Italian aviation from 1909 to the early 1950s.

Photographs, biographies, documents and objects recall an 'adventure' that is inextricably linked to the main wartime conflicts faced by Italy, from the Libyan War to World War II.

"Oggi si vola" ("Today we'll fly") is the section dedicated to air sports: in the early 20th century, aeronautical initiatives proliferated, also involving Italian pilots; after World War I, Fascism created the image of the daring aviator, soaring through the air at unusual heights or overcoming various natural obstacles, and exploited his exploits for propaganda purposes.

"Il dominio dell'aria" ("The dominion of the air") deals with the wars that Italy, a pioneer in the use of aircraft in war, fought to conquer the sky; finally, the part entitled "The aeronautical adventure" allows us to get to know the test pilots and the pilots, both Italian and from Trentino, who were involved in important national aerial endeavours (Umberto Nobile, Rosina Ferrario, Ernesto Zanlucchi, to name but a few).

The route "A journey through the history of Italian aeronautics" is also available in virtual form
on the website of the Fondazione Museo storico del Trentino (www.museostorico.it).
