A stroke of the pencil. The Great War in caricature

exhibition

The exhibition was first staged in late summer 2014 and then it travelled all over Italy touching 17 locations.

The present new situation that has arisen due to the health emergency, has suggested to revive the contents of the exhibition in virtual mode. The result is an intimately different proposal, since the potential offered by the computer medium made it possible to activate transversal readings and a more detailed vision of the images.

An exhibition dedicated to the war fought not at the front but on the pages of satirical magazines and newspapers, through the skill and creativity of cartoonists, many of high stature.

The exhibition spanning over about 30 years, from the early nineties of the nineteenth century to the end of the decade of the twentieth century, takes the visitor on a journey through the history of the most important illustrated magazines of European political satire and their contributors.

Before targeting the enemy, the pencil strokes aim at denouncing and pointing out the disasters of war.
