Opera di Alighiero Boetti [ MART]

On the occasion of the 38th Oriente Occidente Dance Festival , Mart has organized an exhibition of Alighiero Boetti’s stage sets for the dance performance Erodiade – Fame di vento (Herodias – Hunger for Wind), choreographed by Julie Ann Anzilotti.
Inspired by an unfinished poem by Stéphane Mallermé, the stage piece narrates the restless impulses of the seductive dancer Herodias (the biblical Salome).
A preeminent artist on the international scene, Boetti worked on stage sets in 1992 and 1993, visually reinterpreting the eternal dichotomic interpenetration of good and evil. His essential geometries define a dimension between the earthly and the heavenly realms, vitalized by the movement of the paper backdrops and the dancers.
The exhibition includes two backdrops crafted by the scenographer Tiziana Draghi and a selection of preparatory sketches outlining Boetti’s creative process and exploring the connections with his greater oeuvre, in particular, his foray into Japanese calligraphy in the 1980s.
