About the exhibition "Giovanni Boldini. Il Piacere":

Worldly cafes, exquisite fashions, bourgeoisie elegance, and the heady romanticism of Parisian salons, as captured by the greatest portrait artist of the time: Giovanni Boldini.
The latest Mart exhibition is dedicated to this fantastic artist. On loan are 170 works of art from public and private collections, many of which belong to the Boldini Museum in Ferrara, which closed its doors after the earthquake in 2012.
One of the most well-regarded and prolific painters of his time, Boldini was able to perfectly capture the essence of this dazzling era, going on to become one of its central protagonists. Travelling between Ferrara, Paris, Florence and London, the Italian maestro studied Raphael, frequented the Macchiaioli and the Caffè Michelangelo in Florence. He was also well acquainted with Courbet, Manet, Degas and, after settling permanently in Paris, carved himself a niche as one of the most sought-after artists of his time. Thanks to his resourcefulness and remarkable interpersonal skills, over the years, Boldini became a famous portrait artist. His paintings succeeded in both capturing and defining the styles, trends and aesthetics of the Ville Lumière, Europe's undisputed capital.
Giovanni Boldini. Pleasure takes a look back at the Italian painter's life while shedding light on the events and relationships that marked his long, fruitful career. The exhibition focuses in particular on Boldini's relationship with the poet Gabriele d'Annunzio, through their shared muses, such as the ‘Divine Marquise’ Luisa Casati, a cultured, progressive woman who was uniquely brilliant in her ability to interpret the elegance and eccentricity of the Belle Époque.
In order to facilitate your immersion into the era in which Boldini lived and worked, the exhibition is accompanied by a soundtrack composed exclusively for the Mart by the pianist and composer Cesare Picco and the violinist Luca GiardiniContemplazioni installed the exhibition.
