Claudio Grezler, known in Trento as President (for nearly two decades) of the ITAS Insurance Institute of Trentino Alto Adige, was a great lover of art. This passion of his led him to acquire a rich collection of paintings by Italian and Flemish artists of the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, among which are outstanding works of the sacred and profane, portraits, battles, landscapes.

After his death, according to his will, Grezler’s painting collection was included in the art collection of the ITAS Insurance Institute, and it was shown to the public since 1989 at the Buonconsiglio Castle. Claudio Grezler wished in fact that his collection, built "with time, effort and sacrifice", wouldn’t be lost, but that it could become everyone's heritage.

Today, with this important heritage, the museum of the Buonconsiglio Castle, in agreement with ITAS, pays homage to this important collector with an exhibition meant to enhance his collection.

After being carefully restored and examined, here are Grezler’s choices, together with other valuable paintings owned by the ITAS Insurance Institute, which Grezler himself contributed to enrich during the years of his presidency.

Thanks to studies that have been carried out recently, many works have been attributed to their legitimate authors (beforehands they were anonymous); among them, the visitors of the museum can thus enjoy the baroque relief by Antonio Giuseppe Sartori with the figure of St. Florian, a delicate painting with Holy Conversation assigned to Nicolò de Barbari, the magnificent painting by Bernardino Nocchi with Venere e Vulcano (Venus and Vulcan), a lively Battaglia (Battle) by Antonio Marini, and a vivid Baccanale by Flemish school.
