The Dal Ponte family of painters, known as Bassano, was active in the Republic of Venice between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and was headed by Jacopo (between about 1510-1592), who formulated the unmistakable style that would have decreed the success of their workshop for over a century.

But how was Bassano's workshop organised?

And why did it become one of the most successful shops between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries?

In Trentino there are notable examples of Dal Ponte's artistic production: the precious series of four altarpieces in the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Civezzano, and the painting Cristo accolto da Marta e Maria nella loro casa (Christ welcomed by Marta and Maria to their home), in the collections of the Diocesan Museum.

Starting from these works, in the light of the most recent studies, we will retrace the evolution of the successful style of Bassano and see how their workshop worked.
