La morte e la fanciulla [ Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara]

Since 1991, the year of birth of the Terramara duet, Michele Abbondanza and Antonella Bertoni have been creating in tandem. Unique in the panorama of contemporary Italian dance, the two artists living in Rovereto with the company that bears their names work on recurring themes such as love, tragedy and pain. In recent years they have focused on the choreographic interpretation of great musical scores in a trilogy in which they return to a pure form of dance. The first happy chapter of this trilogy is La Morte e la Fanciulla (Death and the Girl), a show that won the Italian Critics' Award Dance & Dance 2017, built on the homonymous quartet by Franz Schubert in D minor. In this heartfelt female trio Michele Abbondanza and Antonella Bertoni deploy the human in the excellence of its dynamics, naturally integrating the technology on the cycle of life and death that defines man and his existence. Sulfurous and caressing, La Morte e la Fanciulla sees three women in the half-light become a "naked dance", chased in the breaks by the crooked perspective of the camera, as a voyeuristic eye. Expanding the Schubert story of the young girl grimaced by death into a metaphor for the kidnapped beauty, fragile, sublime and ephemeral of the dance itself, they construct a visionary work, with expressionist traits, developed in admirable harmony with the music.

The evening will be enriched by live music performed by the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento.
