Maheela

When being a woman is a daily challenge

exhibition , Photographic exhibition

Curated by Luca Chistè.

The exhibition, consisting of 60 photographs, aims at promoting in Italy the knowledge of Nepal and of the status of women in this country: "Maheela" means, in fact, “women” in the Nepali language.
In Nepal today there are thousands of women who suffer violence and daily discrimination.

Since 1996, the "no-profit" organization Apeiron has been working by their side with projects regarding literacy, vocational training and micro-credit, by supporting the Nepalese women in the long process to gain economic independence and social redemption.

The exhibition is divided into three sections that correspond to the visions of the three authors Giuseppe Benanti, Giacomo d'Orlando and Paolo Piechele. Women are the privileged protagonists and, moving from morphological features of the territory and from the rural and urban contexts of Nepal, the show shifts its focus on the everyday life of Nepalese women and on their status.

The authors of this photographic project, Giuseppe Benanti, Giacomo d'Orlando and Paolo Piechele, are all volunteers of Apeiron.

Each visitor can support the Nepalese women who are hosted at CASA Nepal - the women’s centre for victims of violence and discrimination, established in Kathmandu (read more about the project here: www.apeirononlus.it) - by purchasing one, or more pictures on display in the exhibition, with a simple donation.

Visitors can easily apply for the picture/s by sending a photo via smartphone, to petra@apeirononlus.it, indicating name, surname and telephone number. At the end of the photo-essay, Apeiron’s staff will ask for confirmation of the request and then send the print as soon as possible.

After the exhibition at the Tunnels of Piedicastello, this photographic project will be travelling across Italy in order to promote the knowledge about the status of women in Nepal.
