Material Immaterial VVV (Verbal visual virtual) Project
Curated by Nicoletta Boschiero, Cecilia Scatturin and Valentina Russo
The Mart and the Museion of Bolzano share the Archivio di Nuova Scrittura, a collection of works, books and documents dedicated to verbal-visual research.
The collection focuses principally on forms of expression in Italian art of the 1960s and ’70s featuring the use of words and visual signs. The exhibition presents a selection of works and documents highlighting the special qualities of this collection of fragile, multivalent objects that resist classification.
Examples of the poetic quest it embodies include the gestural alphabet in the photographs of Ketty La Rocca and Neide Dias de Sà, the thread-interwoven writing in the letters of Amelia Etlinger and the books of Maria Lai, the object poems of Luciano Caruso, and the visual poetry of the precursors Stéphane Mallarmé and Francesco Cangiullo.
All is now documented on the website set up as part of the VVV VerbalVisualVirtual project. The creation of a digital platform based on interactive maps makes it possible to explore the many interconnections between works and documents (letters, publications, photographs), the complex relations among different artists, and the entire creative process.
