"Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits" (Article 27, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948), even those who are serving a sentence in a place of detention.

In the belief that a museum must contribute to protect this right by breaking down all the barriers - tangible and intangible - that generate social exclusion, the  Museo Diocesano Tridentino has organized, for the second consecutive year, a training project for a group of prisoners of the District House of Spini di Gardolo (Trento).
The exhibition Non solo ombre. Persone (Not just shadows: persons) is the conclusion of this experience, and collects the works made by the prisoners throughout seventeen meetings that took place from February to May 2018.

The museum's director Domenica Primerano, the museum educator Valentina Perini, the photographer Valentina Degiampietro and teachers Martina Baldo and Riccarda Turrina took part in the training project, called Identità a confronto (Identities compared).
The theme of the project and the title of the exhibition were inspired by the Gelu's words, one of the participants in the 2017 course: "we are perceived as shadows", he wrote, "but behind these bars" he added "there is not a shadow, but a man who can act and feel".
