In Caporetto the Germans won, not the Austrians, in a battle which was not relevant, and on a front with no strategic importance. By analyzing how and why the offensive was decided, it is possible to understand the failures of the Italian army; it also allows us to consider the organization of an institution - the German army - which would be later a tragic protagonist of our history.
