On 11 July 1995, UN translator and former schoolteacher Aida Selmanagić tries to save her family after the Army of Republika Srpska takes over the city of Srebrenica before the Srebrenica massacre. The film opens with Aida translating a meeting between UN colonel Thom Karremans and the mayor of Srebrenica.
