The Interpretation of Dreams

Sigmund Freud's dream research, a milestone of the 20th century, attempts an answer through the analysis of numerous clinical cases, sometimes dramatic, sometimes even funny and occasional; each one can reveal something to us about the mysterious and splendid laws that superintend our nocturnal mise-en-scenes.

Yes, mise-en-scenes, because the dream in Freud's reading has a profoundly theatrical structure, which is evident right from the book's original title, which alluded to a veritable 'oneiric dramaturgy'. And so the final question arises: with what rules do we proceed, in the phantasmagorical theatre of the Dream?

Stefano Massini brings to completion his ten-year-long work on Sigmund Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams, which began in 2008 and includes several successful public performances, as the highly successful novel published by Mondadori in 2017 and translated into several languages.

After his acclaimed show staged at the Piccolo Teatro, in 2018 Massini returns to the world of Freud with a completely new text, putting his flair as a storyteller at the service of a show which is freely inspired by and based on Freud's writings. An impressive human catalogue: on stage, amidst the notes of Enrico Fink, a multicoloured mosaic of characters takes shape, who, by narrating their dreams, compose a symphony of images and possible interpretations, in which the audience recognises itself and finds itself.
