Filippo Dini, fresh from the success of Così è (se vi pare) (L. Pirandello) and Casa di bambola (H. Ibsen), deals with one of the most lucid and merciless texts in American dramaturgy. Arthur Miller, a pillar of twentieth-century American dramaturgy, wrote The Crucible in 1953, in the midst of McCarthyism, and on the impetus of that state of social aberration and collective hysteria he composed a dramatic fresco in which he distilled the dullness and fierce dementia that invade the human soul under certain circumstances.

The play reenacts what happened during the Salem witch hunts in the 17th century, transports us to a remote era and makes us witness a mad explosion of religious fanaticism within a tiny community in Massachusetts, Salem, isolated from the rest of the world. Miller transforms that most controversial moment in American history into an unapologetic mirror of the blackest and most twisted shadows of contemporary society.
