The fortune of a ragman in Venice in the Seventeenth century. Antonio dal Pesce 'dealer in paintings'

With Serena Bugna

Meetings and conferences , Conference

Antonio dal Pesce, originally from Condino in the Giudicarie valleys (not far from Lake Garda), found work in Venice as a "strazaruol", i.e. ragman.

However, he was not just a simple ragman: he owned 200 paintings, including works by Giorgione, Bonifacio Veronese, Bassano and Tintoretto, and had direct contacts with Pietro Liberi and Joseph Heintz (II)

The episode will explore the figure of this junk dealer from Trentino in relation to the art trade in Baroque Venice and will present some works commissioned by him.

It will also be an opportunity to contextualise the presence of valuable Venetian paintings in sacred buildings in the Chiese and Ledro valleys.
