There are women who have faced prejudices and social obligations of their age to listen to the irresistible call of the journey and exploration. Mary Varale (1895-1963) found his own personal way to be in the world and she defended it with all her strenght. In a country, Italy, oppressed by fascism and social conformism, in a dark period in which the female ideal coincided with the one of bride and prolific mother, Mary climbed 217 mountains from 1924 to 1935. Her life, her endeavours in the mountains, her drastic choices against the sport institutions of that time still preserve untouched all their provocation.
