The journey of Monte Baldo

An exhibition on the historical, naturalistic and cultural characteristics of Monte Baldo

exhibition

The journey of Monte Baldo is the title of a booklet published in 1566 by apothecary Francesco Calzolari from Verona(1522-1609).

This short text contains the compendium of the many excursions made on Mount Baldo by Calzolari himself, alone or in the company of friends, family and scholars. It is a detailed list of numerous floristic species and one of the very first botanical guides of this territory exposed with scientific criteria.

Taking up the title also for an exhibition is a way to underline those specificities and peculiarities, both historical-naturalistic and historical-cultural, that have contributed over the centuries to placing Monte Baldo at the centre of a dense network of scientific relations extended to the whole of Europe.

It is also a way to accompany Monte Baldo along another important path: its candidacy as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
